A large Australian organisation brought data governance and the governance of AI use under one owner, in a single senior role rather than splitting the two across separate functions.
What the role owns
The data governance framework end to end, covering ownership and stewardship, data quality standards, and the policy that decides who can use what.
Alongside it sits the governance of AI, which is how AI use gets assessed, approved and monitored as it spreads across the organisation. Bringing the two together in one seat is what made this search different from a standard data governance hire.
A lot of the job is influence rather than direct authority, so the appointment needed the stakeholder management to set a standard people follow across teams that do not report in.
