About the business

A well-established technology business operating across Australia. The technology function is being built out properly, with serious investment going into architecture, data and AI. This is a hands-on environment where senior technologists set direction and see it through to delivery.

The opportunity

This is a dual mandate. You own the enterprise architecture agenda and you lead the AI strategy and delivery. You report to the CTO.

Two jobs that usually sit apart, held by one person, so the architecture decisions and the AI roadmap line up. You set the multi-year direction, then build the team and the systems to deliver it.

You get real authority across both domains, a small team of AI engineers to build and shape around you, and a flexible base in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. You work alongside a Chief Data Officer and a security lead, and act as the senior design authority across architecture and AI.

What you’ll own

Enterprise architecture

• The multi-year EA strategy and the roadmap to get there.
• An architecture design authority that you establish and chair: governance, standards, principles and review gates.
• The current-state to target-state blueprint, and the work to rationalise and modernise the technology portfolio.

Integration, SaaS and cloud

• Integration standards across the estate: API-first, event-driven, ETL and messaging patterns.
• SaaS design principles and the cloud and hyperscaler partner strategy.
• Cloud and API governance covering cost, security posture and lifecycle.
• The workflow automation opportunities worth backing.

AI strategy and delivery

• The AI strategy, roadmap and governance model.
• An enterprise AI assistant rollout and the adoption that makes it land.
• The retrieval-augmented generation architecture: private knowledge indexed, retrieved and surfaced to models securely.
• Agentic AI: multi-step, tool-using agents with the right guardrails and human oversight.
• The model services strategy across public and private models, with clear data classification rules.
• Explainability, auditability and responsible AI built in from the start.

Platform, data, team and the business

• Architectural leadership across the cloud and data platform estate, and the standards for reporting and automation.
• A shared, governed data platform built with the Chief Data Officer, so data, applications, SaaS and AI run from one foundation.
• Designs that are secure by design, built with the security lead.
• The AI engineering team you build, and the engineering standards they work to.
• The AI literacy programme, structured use-case discovery, and the credible internal voice on responsible AI.

What you’ll bring

• Around 12 years in technology, with at least 5 in senior enterprise architecture or technology leadership.
• Hands-on AI solution design: retrieval-augmented generation, model orchestration, agentic patterns and prompt engineering.
• Depth across a major cloud and AI platform, including enterprise AI assistants, managed AI services, data and analytics platforms, and the automation tooling around them.
• Strong integration architecture, plus SaaS and cloud governance experience.
• Experience leading small technical teams and developing the people in them.
• The stakeholder credibility to carry senior business leaders and turn complex ideas into business value.
