The opportunity

Exclusive search for a senior engineering leader to take ownership of a large, complex engineering function at a defining moment.

You report to the CTO and lead around 60 engineers, architects and QA across Australia. The remit is clear. Bring consistency and predictability to engineering delivery while shaping the long-term technical direction.

The work is about smart, commercially grounded decisions on what to modernise, what to simplify, and what to leave alone. Judgement carries this role. The brief rewards good calls over rebuilding from scratch.

Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Hybrid, three days a week in office.

What you’ll own

Engineering leadership and culture. Lead and develop around 60 people across engineering, architecture and QA. Manage a direct layer of Engineering Managers and Architects. Build a cohesive, accountable culture across distributed teams.

Delivery excellence. Assess and standardise practices for predictable delivery. Balance velocity with sustainability. Manage vendor and supplier relationships.

Technical strategy and architecture. Partner with the CTO on the roadmap. Drive simplification across a broad, varied landscape. Make pragmatic modernisation calls.

Stakeholder leadership. Represent engineering across the wider business. Bring senior stakeholders with you and translate technical direction into commercial outcomes.

What you’ll bring

  • A track record leading sizeable engineering functions through change, growth or maturation.
  • Comfort across a broad, varied technology landscape with multiple stacks and legacy in the mix.
  • A leadership style that earns trust through pragmatism. You develop the leaders beneath you and hold teams to a clear standard.
  • The judgement to weigh technical decisions commercially, and the credibility to carry a CTO and board with you.
  • Experience leading distributed teams.
